We were trying to figure out the best wind-breaker trees for our land. Our plot is a flat land on top of a steep hill. During monsoon we observed that the speed of wind blowing from the valley is quite high. The already existing trees on the hill are quite battered in this season.
After much research we have concluded that bamboo may be the best option as wind-breaker trees for our land.
Reasons are:
- Bamboo is the fastest growing tree on Earth.
- It is easily maintained. It survives drought up to 3-4 years.
- Bamboo will be an excellent bio fence protecting your crops from human and animal encroachment.
- Can be used to build structures in your farm.
- In the long run, it will greatly improve land water retention.
- Underground water levels increase.
- Every one clump bamboo sapling can produce up to 100 new shoots every year.
- Bamboo can be harvested and sold after 3-4 years and can do the same every year thereafter.
- Govt of India has many schemes to promote bamboo plantation.
- Finally, bamboo is beautiful to have in your farm.
